PEATS stands for Police External Agencies Transfer System.

It is a secure platform used by the NSW Police Force to share operational information with authorised media organisations.

What is PEATS?

        • PEATS (Police External Agencies Transfer System) is an internal NSW Police Force system designed to facilitate the controlled release of policing information to external media agencies.
        • It serves as a secure portal where authorised media representatives can access updates on police operations, incidents, and public safety matters.

Purpose and Use

        • PEATS is primarily used to publish timely and accurate information about police activities, including:
        • Major incidents
        • Arrests and charges
        • Traffic operations
        • Public safety alerts
        • The system ensures that media outlets receive verified information directly from NSW Police, reducing misinformation and improving public communication.

Access and Security

        • Access to PEATS is restricted to authorised users from recognised media organisations.
        • Users must log in with credentials and a secure code, and unauthorised access or misuse is strictly prohibited under NSW and Commonwealth law.
        • The system is governed by internal media policies and the NSW Police Force’s Public Affairs Branch.

Related Media Channels

        • In addition to PEATS, NSW Police also disseminates information via:
        • The NSW Police Force Community Portal
        • Official social media channels
        • Direct media enquiries handled by the Police Media Unit (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., 02 8263 6100)

It goes without saying that breaching the PEATS system illegally has serious legal and criminal ramifications. Unauthorised access to the system and/or the misuse or unauthorised disclosure of information contained within it is not permitted under any circumstances.

The provisions of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW), Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) and the laws of other states and countries, provide harsh penalties for computer related offences.
