How To:
Upload favourites to your UBCD-X36-PT Scanner
The following KB Article will teach you how to use Sentinel AUSTRALIA (make sure to install the Australian version - NOT the US version. Using the wrong version will corrupt the databases. If you cant find Sentinel Australia, contact me and I will send you a copy.) to set up, upload and install favourites which could contain any Australian emergency service talk groups.
You can copy the contents from this website and create your own database instead of paying for one from other places. If you still need help after this article, join Discord and you will get any support you need.
Step 1:
Open the Australian Version of the Sentinel Software (Figure 1)

Figure 1
Step 2:
With your scanner connected via the Mini USB to USB cable connected place the scanner into programming mode.
Here is how to enter into PC programming Mode on your Scanner:
-
-
-
- Press Menu button
- Use the Silver Wheel on the left to Scroll to “Settings”
- Press the wheel you just used to scroll
- Then Continue to rotate the wheel until you get to “PC Programming Mode”
- Press the wheel again
- A prompt will come up saying: PC Programming Mode? Yes=”E” / No=”.” > Press E (Bottom Right corner of keypad – Button also says “YES”)
- Press “E Yes”
-
-
You are now in PC Programming mode. To exit, rotate the volume button to turn the unit off once everything is completed.
Important: DO NOT TURN THE SCANNER OFF UNLESS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO!
Step 3:
In the sentinel software, navigate in Windows Explorer to import the .hpe file of your choice (See figure 2).

Step 4:
You will need to create a new Favourites List. To do that, select the “New Favourites List” option (see figure 3).

Figure 3
Step 5:
In the window below enter whatever name you wish to give your new favourites database. For example, NSW PSN (new name for GRN - Public Safety Network) The choice is yours as long as its not too many characters.
Once done, click OK (Figure 4).

Step 6:
Now browse to the location of the database file I have sent to you. It will be named something like “Full Database Vx.xx.hpe (ie. Full Database 1.1.1. hpe)”. (Figure 5)

Step 7:
Click OK (Figure 6)

Figure 6
Note: If you get a failure message, the hpe file may be corrupt or designed for a different model scanner - double check the file integrity and scanner type.
Step 8:
If you look under Favourite Lists, you will now see the new Database Favourite we just created named in this case “NSW PSN” (Figure 7)

Figure 7
Step 9:
Now the most important part – Uploading to your scanner. As your scanner shouldn`t have any favourites it should be simple.
Just keep in mind that proceeding will delete any favourites already on the scanner. Press the button highlighted in red below. The favourites you are going to upload will show up where the red line is (Figure 8).

Step 10:
The following window below will be populated with the Micro SD card information of your UBCDX36-PT. Such as size of the micro-SD, model number, Serial Number etc.
Important: If you have more than one option here STOP and contact me first before continuing!
Otherwise, select your SD card, tick “Erase Favourites Lists on Scanner” (As long as you didn’t create your own favourites lists yet – if you have favourites already on your scanner and you wish to keep them, get support on Patreon. Support there is free and we will be able to help you.)
Press OK. (Figure 9)

Step 11:
You have now uploaded your new database successfully. Ensure that you didn’t get any error messages after clicking OK.
Now, turn off your scanner, disconnect the cable from the front of the scanner, then turn the scanner back on, you should see the database loading as the scanner turns on.
If it says “Nothing to scan”, you need to enable the database under Menu > Favourites (Ask for support on Patreon - the link is in the menu of this website).
