Talk Groups and IDs

Commonly referenced VRA Rescue NSW talkgroups and radio ID practices include state and regional operations, tactical and dispatch channels. Example TGIDs published for VRA Rescue NSW include Operations (state and regional), Tactical channels, and Dispatch channels such as 20083–20087 (Operations 1–5), 30096–30100 (state operations/tactical/dispatch)

Radio ID usage and interoperability

VRA units typically use Radio IDs (RIDs) in ranges associated with NSW Rural Fire Service conventions for unit numbering and operate on PSN talkgroups that enable coordination with other agencies (Fire & Rescue, Ambulance, SES, State Rescue Board) during multi-agency incidents and exercises.

Coverage and activity patterns

VRA traffic on the PSN is event-driven: busiest during rescue incidents, road crash responses, search operations and scheduled training or drills. Activity is geographically distributed across more than 50 local rescue squads; monitoring is most productive during daytime operational hours and after major incidents or weather events.

Monitoring tips

      • Program control channels and regional site talkgroups covering areas where local rescue squads operate; expect talkgroups to be quiet until an incident or exercise activates them.
      • Watch for both state-wide Operations and regional Operations talkgroups (state-wide patching can occur for large incidents).
      • VRA dispatch and tactical TGIDs are catalogued on community scan resources and trunking databases — check updated PSN talkgroup lists before programming scanners.
