What the Department Does

As of 1 July 2024, DPI became DPIRD, expanding its focus to include regional development alongside its traditional primary industries mandate.

Core Responsibilities

    - Fisheries & Aquaculture: Sustainable management of marine and freshwater resources.
    - Forestry: Oversight of native and plantation forestry operations.
    - Food Safety & Animal Welfare: Standards enforcement and education.
    - Hunting Regulation: Licensing and compliance for recreational hunting.
    - Natural Disaster Recovery: Support for communities and industries affected by floods, fires, and droughts.
    - Export & Market Access: Enhancing NSW’s global trade in agricultural products.

Regional Development Role
